DESCRIPTION:
* Mens FIH Hockey World Cup was first held in Barcelona, Spain, in 1971. Pakistan is the most successful team, having won the tournament four times.
* The Netherlands, Australia, and Germany have each won three titles. Belgium and India have both won the tournament once.
* Besides bagging the gold medal in 1975, India has won the silver and bronze medal once each in 1973 and 1971 respectively.
* India has hosted the Mens World Cup four times, including twice in Odisha.
* India hosted the 1982 edition in Mumbai and 2010 edition in New Delhi.
* The 2018 edition took place in Bhubaneswar, while the 2023 edition was held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.
* Ace defender and drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh will lead a 20-member Indian team, which features two players from Odisha (Amit Rohidas and Shilanand Lakra).
* India, drawn in Pool D alongside England, Pakistan and Wales, will play all their pool-stage matches in Amstelveen, Netherlands.
* India will begin their campaign against Wales on 15 August, before taking on England on 17 August and arch-rivals Pakistan on 19 August.
