DESCRIPTION:
*     The Commonwealth championship will serve as a qualifying event for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year.
*     First held in 1980, the tournament was hosted by India twice in the past (2015 in Pune and 2023 in Greater Noida).
*     Around 300 athletes from 31 countries are set to compete in the Commonwealth Championship, which would take place at Naranpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad.
*     Mirabai Chanu will lead a 16-member Indian senior contingent, which includes eight men and as many women.
*     Chanu will compete for the first time since Paris 2024 Olympics.
*     Commonwealth Championships 2025 will have medal events in eight weight categories each for men and women in the senior division.
*     There will also be competitions for junior and youth lifters, with India taking part across categories.
*     Six lifters from Odisha have been selected to represent India in this championship.
*     They are: Preetismita Bhoi (Youth girls 44kg), Tiki Mohini Malik (Youth girls 63kg), Mina Santa Sr (Junior women 58kg), Bidusmita Bhoi (Junior women 63kg), Hrudananda Das (Junior men 88kg) and Sneha Soren (Senior women 53kg).
