ORGANISED BY: Gujarat State Chess Association, on behalf of All India Chess Federation with the support of Government of India Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
DESCRIPTION:
* The tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 11 rounds.
* Around 230 players from 46 countries, including 102 girls have registered their entries.
* Three players from Odisha would compete in the open category of the World Junior Championships.
* The Odisha trio include International Master Sambit Panda (Elo 2363), Sriansh Das (Elo 2016), Jyotshnav Talukdar (Elo 1898).
* But none from Odisha would be seen in action in the girls category.
* All three Odisha players have been making their preparations at Pro-Chess-Ta, a professional chess training academy, run by the Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha in Bhubaneswar.
* The DSYS is also providing financial support to the trio for their participation in the World Junior Championships.
* According to Odisha International Master Swayangshu Satyapragyan, who is the administrator of Pro-Chess-Ta, the ensuing World Junior will be a good opportunity for the three Odisha players to improve their FIDE ratings.
* "Sambit has the potential to achieve a Grand Master norm. Sriansh can try for an International Master norm,” said Satyapragyan.
