Played his first all-India tournament at the AITA Talent Series Tournament in Kolkata (Dec 2005).

His best performance till date includes reaching second round in AITA junior circuit tournament.

Made international debut by participating in the Asian under-14 tournament at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar (March 30 to April 2, 2009).

Purushottam considers his upset win over seeded player Ranjan Thakur in the AITA Talent Series Tournament at Jamshedpur (Aug/Sept 2007) as his most memorable match so far.
