DESCRIPTION:
* He rendered yeoman service to Orissa cricket by shaping careers of many accomplished players, including the State’s first international Debasis Mohanty.
* But when he was battling for life, only a few come to his rescue.
* He died at the age of 67 due to jaundice and cirrhosis of the lever.
* Being a bachelor, he had none to look after him.
* Besides, World Cupper Mohanty, his known disciples include Ranji Trophy players Prashant Mohapatra, Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Abakash Khatua, P Jayachandra, BBCC Mohapatra and Saroj Barik.
* Despite dedicating his life for the promotion of the game, he received little recognition.
* Lived on whatever money the clubs or the students gave him as his fees.
* He, however, did not charge any fee from the economically weaker players.
* On the contrary, he spent from his meager earnings to provide them equipment and even food.
* Orissa Cricket Association announced an assistance of Rs 50,000 for his treatment when he was battling for life.
* The last rites of Ganguly were performed at Puri.
