FULL NAME: Sundarmani Barik
BORN: August 22, 1956 at Talapatia village, near Jharsuguda in undivided Sambalpur district.
FAMILY: Late Purna Chandra Barik (Father), Japidei Barik (Mother), Dr Sunanda Nayak (Wife).
EDUCATION: Studied in Laxmi Narayan College at Jharsuguda.
PROFESSION: Working in the State Bank of India at Sambalpur.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE/ACHIEVEMENTS:

NATIONAL:
*     Bagged two bronze medals in the Veteran National Athletics Championship at Bangalore in 2006.
*     Bagged a bronze medal in long jump event of the 29th National Master Athletic Championship at Guwahati, Assam in March 2008.

INTERNATIONAL:
*     Bagged bronze in 4x100m relay at the 12th Asian Veteran Athletics Championship at Xindou City in China in the year 2002.
*     Bagged bronze in long jump at Malaysia in 2003.
*     Bagged silver in 4x100 relay event of the 13the Asian Veteran Athletics Championship at Bangkok in Thailand 2004.
*     Bagged silver in long jump event of the 14the Asian Veteran Athletics Championship Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2005.
*     Finished 8th in 4x100m relay race in 50+ age group of the 17th World Master Athletic Championship at Riccione, Italy in 2007.

OTHER IMPORTANT DATA:
* Grew up in the house of his maternal uncle in Talpatia, now in Jharsuguda district after the death of his father.
*     His mother sold puffed rice and fried groundnut to run the family.
*     Dropped out from school after matriculation to do odd jobs to sustain family.
*     With financial assistance from few samaritans, he took admission in LN College at Jharsuguda three years later and peddled 22 kms everyday to pursue his education.
*     Luck smiled on him in 1984 when he got into Clerical of State Bank of India.
*     During his posting at Sambalpur, he came in touch with some veteran sports persons who provided him with the much needed moral support and Sundarmani finally embarked on his athletics career as late as 2001.
*     Wife Dr Nayak, a senior lecturer of Sambalpur Women College, provided him lot of inspiration.
