MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS:
*     Successfully summated (without oxygen) Mount Kosciuszko _ Australia Main Land 2,228m on 3 December 2015.
*     Successfully summated (without oxygen) Mount Elbrus _ Europe Highest peak Caucasus Range 5,642m on 31 July 2015.
*     Successfully summated (without oxygen) Mount Aconcagua _ South America highest peak Andes Range 6,962m on 16 January 2015.
*     Successfully summited (without oxygen) Mount Kilimanjaro _ South Africa highest peak Tanzania Range 5,895m _ on 9 October 2014.
*     In May 2004, she made her first attempt to climb the Mt Everest, climbed upto 7,300mt without oxygen before giving up due to problem in the shoes.
*     In 2006, she made her second attempt to climb the Mt Everest, went up to 8,048 metres but only to give up again due to unfavourable weather condition.
*     She succeeded scaling 8,848m high Mt Everest on third attempt at 11.45 AM on May 21, 2008. She, thus, became the first Oriya mountaineer to scale Mount Everest.

AWARDS/HONOURS/INCENTIVES:
*     In January, 2008, Arcelor Mittal Group presented a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to enable her scale Mount Everest.
*     Bhusan Steels, Coal India Limited, Orissa Mining Corporation and Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys also sponsored her Mount Everest expedition.
*     For her Mount McKinley expedition, she received financial assistance of US $ 6,000 from Angul-based Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Rs 1 lakh from Orissa Mining Corporation, Rs 15,000 from the State Sports Department and air fare from Nalco.
*     The State government gave her Rs 5 lakh in cash and a plot of land in Bhubaneswar for conquering Mt Everest.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
*     Died above the balcony area of Mt Everest while descending from the summit point the highest mountain of the world on 23 May 2019.
*     Kalpana nursed the dream of scaling the Mount Everest since she was seven years old.
*     She practised every day on the 785-metre Kapilas Hill, 22km from her home town.
*     In June 2008, she missed an opportunity to scale the rough terrain of Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, under the leadership of Bachendri Pal, due to illness.
*     In June, 2010, she attempted to scale Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America at 6,194 metres, but gave up due to bad weather conditinon.
*     In May, 2011, she sat on a week-long dharna infront of Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, demanding a government job and begging alms from people.
*     She finally accepted a job offered to her by the Lanco Babandh Power Limited (a private sector company) at Dhenkanal. She joined as an executive in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) department of the company on 4th July 2011 for a monthly salary of Rs 30,000.
