Odisha para-archery phenomenon Payal Nag made India proud by capturing the bronze medal in the para compound women event of the World Archery Para Series, held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic from 29 June to 4 July 2026. The Indian team, featuring Payal and Sheetal Devi beat Slovakia pair of Dominika Petrovicova and Liliana Lacova in the bronze-medal match 140-139.

Earlier in the semifinals, Payal and her idol Sheetal lost to Italian combination of Maria Andrea Virgilio and Irene Picci 138-147. Great Britain pair of Phoebe Paterson Pine and Jodie Grinham bagged the gold medal, defeating the Italian opponents in the final 145-141.

Payal, the only archer in the world without any hand or leg, also competed in the womens compound singles event, where she lost to compatriot Sheetal Devi 137-146 in the quarterfinals.

This was the second international bronze and fourth overall international medal for 18-year Payal, who hails from Jamunabahal village in Balangir district and trains at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Archery Academy in Katra, Jammu & Kashmir, under the guidance of coach Abhilasha Chaudhary.

Earlier, Payal secured one bronze medal at the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai last year and two gold medals at the World Archery Para Series in Bangkok this year.
