  Athletics: Odisha men win gold, bronze in National Open Relay

Odisha won one gold and one bronze medal in the 1st International Invitational Relay/3rd National Open Relay Competition 2026, which was held at Sector-7 Sports Complex in Chandigarh today. Odisha male sprinters also shared the gold medal in a mixed event.

Odisha mens 4x100m relay team, comprising Abhinash Sahu, Mahendra Santa, Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram and Lalu Prasad Bhoi captured the gold medal, clocking 40.47 seconds.

The bronze medal for Odisha was secured by the U-20 mens 4x100m relay team, consisting of Chinmaya Nag, Turia Oram, Jiten Bagh and Ayushman Mahapatra, with a time of 42.08 seconds.
 

Leading Odisha sprinters Lalu Prasad Bhoi and Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram were part of the India-B team that won the gold medal with a New National Record in mixed 4x100m relay, clocking 42.30 seconds.

The two women sprinters of the mixed relay squad were Unnathi Bollanda, Harita Bhadra. The India-B team erased the previous National Record of 43.44 seconds, held by Tamil Nadu.
