Odisha athletes secured four medals in the 5th Indian Open Throws Competition, which was organized by Punjab Athletics Association, under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala on 7 and 8 March 2026. The four medals featured one gold, two silver and one bronze.
Ommkar Prasad Nanda won the all-important gold medal in mens U-20 shot put event with a throw of 17.85 metres. Harshit Gahlot (Haryana) and Yash Chhikara (Delhi) finished second and third with efforts of 17.02 and 17.01, respectively.
Divya Shandilya claimed the silver medal in womens hammer throw, hurling the iron ball to a distance of 53.31 metres. UP girl Tanya Chaudhary won gold with an impressive throw of 61.09 metres. The bronze medal went to Soniya of Rajasthan (52.29m).
