OOA forms committee to inquire allegations against OSBA
01 Mar 2026

A three-member, constituted by Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) to inquire into allegations against Orissa State Badminton Association (OSBA), held its first meeting today. The meeting decided to hold personal discussions with the complainant as well as the secretary of the OSBA, against whom the allegations have been made.

Headed by OOA vice-president Binod Das as chairman, the committee features OOC council members Prabhat Bhol and Dhiren Pallai as members. Blol and Pallai are also functioning as the secretaries of Sundargarh District Athletic Association and Bhadrak District Athletic Association respectively.

According to a press release by OOA, the inquiry committee was constituted as the Department of Sports and Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha entrusted the responsibility to look into the matter after allegations were lodged against OSBA at the Grievance Cell of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

Following the direction of the DSYS, OOA president Samir Mohanty and general secretary Avijit Paul constituted the three-member committee to examine and evaluate the matter.

“After thorough scrutiny and evaluation of the matter, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Odisha Olympic Association, which will subsequently forward the same to the DSYS for further necessary action,’’ the press release stated.

Considering that the matter pertains specifically to badminton, OOA has also decided to include a former badminton player in the committee. Accordingly, former State badminton champion  Sriharsa Routaray has been added as a member of the committee.

It may be noted that the OSBA, headed by IAS officer Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, has been drawing severe criticism for its dubious functioning for many years. Allegations of using a fake registration number, financial irregularities in the name of its secretary Nileen Kumar, harassing the players by forcing them to play expensive open state level tournaments, denying them permission to play open national and international tournaments and victimizing the players and their parents with disciplinary actions have not only tarnished the image of the sport, but also adversely affected its development in the State.
