  Vijay Merchant Trophy: Midhansu hits ton, Himnish scalps five

Opening batter Midhansu Das scored a century and Himnish Sahu bagged five wickets for Odisha in their three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite Group-B match which ended in a draw against Pondicherry on the third and final day at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh today.

Odisha, however, secured three points by taking first-innings lead, while Pondicherry got one point. This was the fifth and last league match for Odisha and they finished fourth in the group table with seven points. Odisha failed to win a single match, lost two and drew three. Punjab and Chhattisgarh claimed the top spots in the Group-B league and qualified for the quarterfinals and pre-quarterfinals respectively.
 

Put into bat by Pondicherry, Odisha declared their first innings at 305 for six with Midhansu Das slamming 179-ball 136 and Aurobinda Muduli contributing 166-ball 56. The duo compiled 124 runs in its partnership for the fourth wicket. In reply, Pondicherry made 287 to concede a first-innings lead of 18 runs. Odisha were 62 for two in their second innings when both the teams decided to end the match as a draw.
