Odisha team Nita Football Academy (NFA) rode on a hat-trick by star striker and captain Pyari Xaxa to maul Sesa Football Academy, Goa 6-1 in their second match of the 9th Indian Women League (IWL) Football Tournament at National Centre of Excellence in Kolkata today.
Togo forward Amiratou N Djambara scored twice and Khumukcham Bhumika Devi netted once to give NFA their first win in two matches. Earlier in their opening match, NFA held three-time champions Gokulam Kerala FC to a 1-1 draw. NFA will next meet Kickstart FC Karnataka on December 27.
Eight top football clubs, including defending champions East Bengal FC, are participating in this edition of the IWL, which is the top tier professional football league for women in India. This is the second season for NFA in the IWL. They finished sixth with 14 points last season, winning four matches, drawing two and losing eight.
