21 Dec 2025

Odisha woman shuttler Vishakha Toppo added one more feather to her cap by winning the mixed-doubles bronze medal, with Indian partner Bhavya Chhabra (Delhi), at the Astana International Challenge 2025, which was held at Beeline Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan from 17 to 21 December 2025.

Vishakha and Bhavya settled for the bronze as they lost to second-seeded Serbian pair of Mihajlo Tomic and Andjela Vitman in the semifinals 10-21, 14-21. Earlier on their way to the semifinals, the Indian duo beat Gal Biziak and Kim Matovic (Slovenia) 21-12, 21-14 in pre-quarterfinals, and M Nawaf Khoiriyansyah and Nahya Muhyifa (Indonesia) 21-19, 25-23 in quarterfinals.

Vishakha also participated in womens doubles event with her regular partner and Odisha statemate Pragati Parida. They reached quarterfinals before going down to top seeds Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva 9-21, 7-21. Vishakha and Pragati reached the last-eight round, defeating Kazakhstan combination of Dilyara Jumadilova and Kamila Smagulova 21-9, 21-6.

It was heartening to see Pragati back on courts and competing in an international tournament after a gap of six months, which she required to recover from an injury.
