Odisha reaped a rich harvest of 28 medals in the Special Olympics National Athletics Championship, which was organised by Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana from 2 to 6 February 2026. The 28 medals featured 10 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze.

According to Special Olympics Bharat Odisha (SOBO) Area Director Prakash Rath, Odisha female athletes secured four gold, eight silver and three bronze, while their male teammates garnered six gold, three silver and four bronze. Around 600 athletes from 27 states participated in the five-day championship.

Rath expressed his gratitude for the support of the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha. SOBO president Sunita Mund, vice-president Umakant Sarangi, State coordinator Arpita Mohapatra, treasurer Suresh Khuntia and psychologist Mantosh Behera congratulated all the participants and wished them well for the future.

ODISHA MEDAL WINNERS:

WOMEN:
Sagupta Sahin: 2 gold (1 each in 200m dash and long jump).
Gitanjali Singh: 1 gold in 50m dash.
Odisha team: 1 gold in relay race (Sagupta Sahin, Jasmita Marandi, Seema Patel and Seema Nayak).
Deepika Kumbar: 2 silver (1 each in 50m and 100m dash).
Satyabhama Sahu: 2 silver (1 each in 50m dash and 100m dash).
Sangita Naik: 1 silver and 1 bronze in 50m and 100m dash respectively.
Lilima Bhuye: 1 silver in 100m dash.
Seema Patel: 1 silver in 400m dash.
Seema Nayak: 1 silver in shot put.
Harshita Priyadarshini Tripathi: 2 bronze (1 each in 50m and 100m dash).

MEN:
Bhimsen Rana: 1 gold and 1 silver in long jump and 200m run respectively.
Laba Behera: 1 gold and 1 silver in 400m and 200m run.
Bimal Nayak: 1 gold and 1 bronze in shot put and 200m run.
Suvendu Baiga: 1 gold in long jump.
Hrudananda Nag: 1 gold in shot put.
Satyabrata Dash: 1 gold in long jump.
Badal Banachur: 1 silver and 1 bronze in 200m and 400m run respectively.
Aman Patel: 1 bronze in long jump.
Odisha team: 1 bronze in relay race (Suvendu Baiga, Hrudananda Nag, Satyabrata Dash, Laba Behera).
