  South Asian Sr Athletics: Odisha duo Pratik, Sarun win medals

Odisha sprinter Pratik Maharana and long jumper Sarun Payasing won three medals for the country in the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships, which is taking place at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand from 24 to 26 October 2025.

Bargarh sprinter Pratik was part of the Indian mens 4x100m relay team that secured the silver medal with a time of 40.65 seconds on October 25. J Singh Dhillon, Harsh Raut and Pranav Gurav were the other three runners of the Indian relay team.

Pratik claimed his second medal with a bronze in mens 200m run today, clocking 21.44 seconds. Last year, Pratik won one silver medal each in 200m and 4x100m relay at the 4th South Asian Junior Athletics Championship in Chennai.

 

Earlier this month, he won the 200m gold medal with a new meet record and 100m silver at the 40th National Junior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. A disciple of coach Siba Prasad Mishra, Pratik has also qualified for the World Athletics U-20 Championship to be held in Eugene, USA next year.

Sarun bagged the bronze medal in mens long jump with an effort of 7.52 metres today. This was the first international medal for Sarun, who hails from Kalahandi district. Also a sprinter, Sarun has the reputation of winning four medals, including two gold at different National championships and Khelo India University Games.

Besides Pratik and Sarun, Odisha coach Siba Prasad Mishra and Prabodha Kumar Mohanty are representing India as coach and technical official respectively at the South Asian Senior Athletics Championships.
