  National Road Cycling: Odisha girls bag bronze medal

Odisha bagged the second medal in the ongoing 30th National Road Cycling Championship with a bronze in Youth Girls 20 km team time trial at Sambalpur, Odisha today. Odisha team, featuring Sasmita Panda, Purbayee Mohanty and Sneha Das claimed the bronze medal with time of 34 minutes and 39.178 seconds.

According to host Odisha Cycling Association president and cycling Arjuna Awardee Minati Mohapatra, Sasmita played instrumental role in giving Odisha the youth girls TTTĀ  bronze medal after a long gap. Sasmita was well supported by Purbayee and Sneha. For all three Odisha girls, the bronze was their maiden National medal.

 

Sasmita, who belongs to Bhadrak district, narrowly missed another bronze medal as she finished fourth in youth girls 20km individual time trial, clocking 16:17.428, while Purbayee and Sneha secured the 10th and 17th position respectively. Purbayee hails from Khordha district and Sneha belongs to Bhadrak.

All three girls are current or former trainees of Odisha Cycling Academy, which is operating at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar with Manas Barik as the chief coach. Meanwhile, Shena has joined SAI Centre of Excellence in Guwahati.

Bhadrak District Cycling Association secretary and coach Manoranjan Barik congratulated both Sasmita and Sneha for making Odisha proud by winning a National bronze medal for the State.
