Odisha narrowly missed a berth in the pre-quarterfinals of the BCCI Women U-23 T20 Trophy Cricket Tournament as they went down fighting to Mumbai by 18 runs in their fifth and last Elite Group-B match at KCA Cricket Ground in Mangalapuram, Trivandrum today.

This was the first defeat for Odisha, who finished fourth in their group with 12 points from five games. Mumbai emerged group toppers with 20 points and qualified for the quarterfinals. There was a three-way tie for the second spot with Haryana, Uttarakhand and Odisha securing 12 points each.

But virtue of their higher net run rate (NNR) of 1.153, Haryana booked a berth in the pre-quarterfinals, while Uttarakhand (NNR 1.115) and Odisha (NNR 0.818) were eliminated. However, Odisha ended their campaign with the consolation of giving formidable Mumbai a tough fight. Electing to bat, Mumbai made 140 for seven and then restricted Odisha to 122 for six.

Allrounder Tanmayee Behera and captain Alipsa Biswal shone with the bat, scoring 44 and 38 runs respectively, while Sreya Priyadarshini bowled well, picking up two wickets for 19 runs. Tanmayee also effected two run outs and held one catch. In their earlier four matches, Odisha beat Sikkim by 85 runs, Uttarakhand by three runs and Baroda by 27 runs, but lost to Haryana by seven wickets.
