Odisha cycling ace Swasti Singh st a new National record in the women elite 4 km individual pursuit on the opening day of the two-day National Selection Trials, which is being conducted by Cycling Federation of India at the Cycling Velodrome, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi on 6 and 7 August 2025.
Delivering a landmark performance in the event, Swasti won the first position with a National record, clocking an impressive time of 5:01.475, which was also her personal best. This was a significant career-milestone for Swasti, who is regarded as one of the most endurance cyclists of the country.
She also surpassed the bronze-medal winning time of 5:02, which was registered at the Asian Cycling Championship earlier this year. Her ride at the ongoing trials was over five seconds faster then her previous personal best of 5:06, which she had recorded during the Asian Championship selection trials in January this year, also held in New Delhi.
Harshita Jakhar (Rajasthan) finished second, clocking 5:08.122, while Meenakshi (Haryana) secured the third place with a time of 5.11.162. Khoirom Rejiya Devi, representing Odisha, claimed the seventh position, clocking 05:24.273.
The selection trials are being conducted to prepare a list of cyclists for upcoming international competitions up to December 2025, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The stellar performance of Swasti positions her as one of the strongest contenders for international representation in the endurance discipline.
