Swimmers continued to make Odisha proud as Bhubaneswar girl Sahita Ghosh won the silver medal in 100m breaststroke event (Group-III, 11-12 years) on the opening day of the 41st Sub Junior National Aquatic Championships at Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka today.
A trainee of Odisha-IIS Swimming High Performance Centre, Bhubaneswar, Sahita secured the silver medal, clocking 1:23.48 seconds. Kasturi Gogoi (Assam) won the gold with a time of 1:20.42 seconds, while the bronze went to Nidhi Samant (Maharashtra), who clocked 1:25.04 seconds.
This was the second National medal for Odisha swimmers in successive days with Sai Swarup Swain bagging one bronze in boys 50m breaststroke (Group-II, 13-14 years) on the opening day of the 51st Junior National Aquatic Championship at Naranpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat yesterday.
Speaking on winning her maiden National medal, Sahita said she was happy with her performance. “I was well prepared for the Nationals after emerging girls Group-III champion with four gold and two silver medals in individual events of the Odisha State Junior & Sub-junior Swimming Championship recently, said Sahita over phone.
She thanked HPC coach Yurvesh Dubey for helping her to win the National medal. “I achieved my personal best timing along with the silver medal. I am thankful to Yurvesh sir for his support and guidance,” added Sahita.
