Former India off-spinner and Odisha woman cricket star Rasanara Parwin has announced her retirement from all formats of the sport with immediate effect. This was announced by the Odisha Cricket Association yesterday. The second woman cricketer from Odisha to represent India, Rasanara played one One-Day International, three T20 International and around 130 senior domestic matches during her illustrious career that started in the year 2010.
A native of Balangir town, Rasanara played her only ODI against West Indies at the 2013 Womens World Cup in Mumbai. She represented India in one T20I each against Sri Lanka and Pakistan during 2012 Womens World Cup in Sri Lanka, and one T20I against Thailand during 2012 Asia Cup in China. However, for some reason, the Asia Cup match does not get the mention in her career profile.
As the most successful woman spin bowler of Odisha, Rasanara helped the State team reach semifinals or quarterfinals several times in Senior National One-Day and T20 Tournaments. The special feature of her bowling is a natural loop, which often deceives batters in the air as the ball lands almost vertically.
Rasanara has been serving as a Sub-Inspector in Odisha Police since 2015. A humble human and an animal lover, Rasanara plans to take up cricket coaching or operational management in order to give back something to the sport that gave her a lot.
