Odisha woman hammer thrower Divya Sandilya won the silver medal with an effort of 57.92 metres on the fourth and last day of the 64th National Open Athletics Championship at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand today. Tanya Chaudhary (UP) and Manpress Kaur (Punjab) captured the gold and bronze medal with performances of 60.83m and 56.52m respectively.
This was the second National medal for Divya, who secured a silver at the 64th National Inter-State Athletics Championship at the JN Stadium in Chennai last month with State record and personal best of 59.58m.
The silver by Divya was the fourth medal for Odisha at the National Open Championship, which concluded today. Earlier Odisha claimed one silver and two bronze medals on the penultimate day. Sarun Payasingh bagged one silver in mens long jump, while Swadhin Majhi won one bronze in mens high jump.
The other bronze medal was pocketed by Odisha mens 4x100m relay team, featuring Amiya Kumar Mallick, Sarun Payasing, Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram and Abhinash Sahu. A total of 14 athletes from Odisha registered their entries for the Open National Championship.
