  Buchi Babu Cricket: Odisha bow out with a win over J&K

After conceding a first-inning lead of 16 runs, Odisha fought back to beat Jammu & Kashmir by 118 runs on the third and final day of their third and last Group-B match of the All India Buchi Babu Memorial Invitational Cricket Tournament at SSN College Ground in Chennai today. But the win went in vain as Odisha were eliminated from the group stage.

Experienced allrounder Govinda Poddar and young left-arm spinner Sayed Fufayl Ahmad played instrumental roles in the Odisha win. Poddar scored a half-century in each innings and claimed a total of five wickets. He bagged the Player of the Match award of Rs 10,000.

Tufayl captured four wickets in each innings for a match haul of eight for 149. Among other notable performers for Odisha, Rajesh Dhupar scored a century in the first innings, while Kartik Biswal and Subhranshu Senapati contributed one half-century each in first and second innings respectively.

 

Jammu-Kashmir took the first innings lead by making 330 in reply to 314 by Odisha. The match took a dramatic turn as Odisha compiled 240 in the second innings and then skittled out Jammu-Kashmir for 106.

This was the first win in three matches for Odisha, who earlier suffered defeats against Baroda and Indian Railways. Odisha finished fourth and last in their group and bowed out of the tournament. The top team of the group qualified for the semifinals.

Odisha (1st innings): 314/10 in 87.5 overs (Rajesh Dhupar 104, Govinda Poddar 74, Kartik Biswal 53; Vansaj Sharma 4/90, Abid Mushtaq 4/95).

Jammu-Kashmir (1st innings): 330/10 in 86.5 overs (Paras Dogra 141, Abid Mushtaq 71; Sayed Fufayl Ahmad 4/116, Govinda Poddar 3/76).

Odisha (2nd innings): 240/10 in 44.5 overs (Govinda Poddar 72, Subhranshu Senapati 55; Vansaj Sharma 3/77, Abid Mushtaq 2/66).

Jammu-Kashmir (2nd innings): 106/10 in 34.5 overs (Musaif Aijaz 47; Sayed Fufayl Ahmad 4/33, Govinda Poddar 2/23). Odisha won by 118 runs. PoM: Govinda Poddar.
