Bidusmita Bhoi kept the dazzling display of Odisha competitors going gaga in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at the Naranpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad as she won a gold medal with a new record in junior women 63kg category today.
This was the first international medal for 20-year-old Bidusmita, who achieved glory with a total lift of 204kg, including 89kg in snatch and 115kg in clean & jerk. She set the new championship record in clean & jerk. Bidusmita also completed a gold double for her family with younger sister Preetismita winning the first gold in youth women 44kg class two days back. The younger sibling also established three championship records.
Bidusmita became the fourth women lifter from Odisha to win a medal in the ongoing championship. Earlier, Sneha Soren bagged one silver in senior women 53kg class and Mina Santa (A) clinched one gold in junior women 58kg category.
