Sneha Soren became the second medal winner for Odisha in the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at Naranpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad when she secured the silver medal for the country in senior women 53kg category with a total lift of 185kg today.
One of the all-time great women weightlifters of Odisha, Sneha lifted 81kg in snatch and 104kg in clean and jerk to clinch the silver medal. Earlier on the opening day, Preetismita Bhoi bagged the first medal for both Odisha and India with a gold in youth women 44kg.
With the silver in senior women category Sheha, who hails from Mayurbhanj district and works as a junior clerk at the State Higher Education Department, achieved the feat of winning a Commonwealth championship medal in all three groups. Earlier, she secured one gold (2017) and one silver (2019) in women youth and junior groups respectively.
Currently honing her skill at the Odisha Weightlifting HPC, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, 24-year-old Sneha also has the reputation of winning one gold medal at the 2019 South Asian Championship in Pokhara, Nepal and one bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Youth Championship Urgench, Uzbekistan.
Odisha Weightlifting Association (OWA) president Chitta Ranjan Swain and interim secretary Gopal Krushna Das congratulated Sneha on her latest achievement and wished her many more in the future.
