  State Ranking TT: Sarthak celebrates home coming with double crown

Youth international paddler and current India U-17 No 1, Sarthak Arya celebrated his return to home state Odisha by clinching a double crown at the 30th YGTTA State Ranking Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at the Biju Patnaik Multipurpose Indoor Hall, CDC, Cuttack today.

Playing his first tournament on home soil, Delhi-based Sarthak won the two titles in U-19 boys and mens singles events. One of the most promising table tennis players of the country, 16-year-old Sarthak has the reputation of winning 16 youth international and as many national medals till date.

 

Son of Arya Prakash, who belongs to Jhankada of Jagatsinghpur district and works in Delhi, Sarthak has been honing his skill at the PSPB Table Tennis Academy in Sonipat, Haryana and studies at Delhi Public School. According to Odisha State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA) secretary Rabindra Kumar Parida, henceforth Sarthak will represent Odisha in National championships.

Sweta Verma was another star performer of the YGTTA State Ranking Tournament, which was organised by Young Generation Table Association (YGTT), under the auspices of OSTTA. Sweta also bagged a double, winning both the U-13 and U-15 girls singles titles.

Other eight title winners of the three-day tournament were: Gayatri Patnaik, Rudra Ranbeer, Abhishek Das, Jigyanshu Sai Kiran Pradhan, Jigyanshu Sahoo, Urja Verma, Sweta Padma Dalai and Neha Kumari.

Odisha Olympic Association secretary Abhijit Paul joined the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophies. OSTTA secretary RK Parida, office-bearers Abdul Wahi and Nihar Ranjan Mishra were present on the occasion. Matches were conducted by umpires Jeevan Ballav Samal, Tapan Kha, Bijan Das Mohaptra, Sujit Ray, Sandeep Chakraborty, KSN Murty and KVP Rama Rao.

RESULTS (Finals):

U-11 Girls Singles: Gayatri Patnaik (Puri) and Aanvi Sudip Kumar (Bhubaneswar TTA) became champion and runner-up after round robin league.

U-11 Boys Singles: Rudra Ranbeer (Cuttack) beat Swastik Singh (Khordha DTTA) 3-2 (3-11, 9-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-4).

U-13 Girls Singles: Sweta Verma (Khordha DTTA) beat Aradhya Sahoo (Cuttack) 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-9).

U-13 Boys Singles: Abhishek Das (Bhubaneswar TTA) beat K Shibasankar (Cuttack) 3-1 (11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9).

U-15 Girls Singles: Sweta Verma (Khordha DTTA) beat Aradhya Sahoo (Cuttack) 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-9).

U-15 Boys Singles: Jigyanshu Sai Kiran Pradhan (Puri) beat Sayed Arsh Ali (Cuttack) 3-0 (12-10 11-8, 11-6).

U-17 Girls Singles: Urja Verma (Khordha DTTA) beat Sweta Verma (Khordha DTTA) 3-1 (16-14, 5-11, 11-6, 11-5).

U-17 Boys Singles: Jigyanshu Sahoo (Cuttack) beat Jigyanshu Sai Kiran Prdhan (Puri) 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-9).

U-19 Girls Singles: Sweta Padma Dalai (Bhubaneswar TTA) beat Sakshi Bagat (Cuttack) 3-1 (11-7, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4).

U-19 Boys Singles: Sarthak Arya (Cuttack) beat Jigyanshu Sahoo (Cuttack) 3-0 (11-5, 14-12, 11-7).

Womens Singles: Neha Kumari (Railway Audit) beat Sweta Padma Dalai (Bhubaneswar TTA) 4-3 (11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 6-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-7).

Mens Singles: Sarthak Arya (Cuttack) beat Suvendu Shaw (ESIC) 4-1 (11-7, 11-4, 12-10, 4-11, 11-6).
