Odisha mens 4x100m team, featuring Amiya Mallick, Animesh Kujur, Lalu Prasad Bhoi and Sarun Payasingh, won the gold medal with new Meet Record (MR) with a time of 39.52 seconds on the third day of the 64th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu today.
The Odisha quartet bettered the previous meet record of 39.88 seconds, which was established by Tamil Nadu in 2022. This time, Tamil Nadu (39.80s) settled with the silver medal, while Kerala (40.55s) secured the bronze medal.
This was the second medal for Odisha in the five-day championship with Divya Shandilya bagging the first one with a silver in womens hammer throw earlier on the opening day. But the Odisha womens 4x100 relay team, consisting of Olympian Srabani Nanda, Bonita Lakra, Binati Behera and Mousumi Roy, could not finish the race.
Among other Odisha athletes in action today, Pragyan Prasanti Sahu finished fifth in womens 100m hurdles, clocking 13.75 seconds. Moumita Mondal (West Bengal), Nandhini K (Tamil Nadu) and Anjali C (Kerala) won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
