  KIYG 2025 Athletics: Gold for Ommkar, Parbati bags bronze

Thrower Ommkar Prasad Nanda and jumper Parbati Hansdah won the first two medals for Odisha in the athletics competition of the 7th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), which is being held at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar from 12 to 14 May 2025.

Ommkar bagged the gold medal in boys shot put with a personal best throw of 20.89 metres today. Parbati secured the girls long-jump bronze medal with an effort of 5.43 metres yesterday.

Besides the two medals in athletics, Odisha bagged the gold in girls hockey on the 10th day of the KIYG 2025. Odisha now occupy the 15th position in the medal tally with five gold, five silver and one bronze for a total of 11 medals.

 

Earlier, Odisha secured two gold and two silver in weightlifting, one gold and one silver in kho-kho, and two silver in rugby. Odisha boys football team has also secured the silver medal by winning their semifinal match against Mizoram 5-1 yesterday. It will be a gold medal if they beat Jharkhand in the final.
