Odisha boy Jagat Jyoti Pati won the doubles title in the AITA Championship Series U-16 Tennis Tournament at Baidya Nath Prasad Tennis Academy in New Delhi today. Partnering with Tanish Bindal of Delhi, Jagat defeated Delhi pair of Prakul Prasad and Abhay Nain in the finals 9-7.
This was the maiden Championship Series doubles title for Jagat, who is Class-X student of DAV Public School, CDA Sector-6, Cuttack. He also participated in the boys singles event and reached quarterfinals before losing to his doubles partner Tanish Bindal with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-10.
Son of police officers, Jagat is currently ranked 280 in the boys under 16 category. He credited his success to his parents, Biranchi Narayan Pati and Renubala Tripathy, and his coach, Santosh Kumar Mallik.
Coach Mallik believes the height of Jagat will be an advantage in his tennis career. "Jagat is a talented kid and his height will definitely help him take a long way in tennis, and he will shine in the coming days."
