  Senior National Aquatics: Odisha bag 2 medals on Day 3

Women swimmers of host Odisha continued their heart-warming performances in the the 78th Senior National Aquatic Championship, bagging one silver and one bronze medal on the third day at the Aquatic Centre in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar today.

Pratyasa Ray, Mannata Mishra, Shristi Upadhaya and Divyanka Dibyajyoti Pradhan won the silver medal for Odisha in womens 4x100 medley relay with a time of 4:27.10. Karnataka (4:25.92) and Bengal (4:29.86) secured the gold and bronze medals respectively.

Odisha ace Shristi Upadhaya won her second individual and third overall medal in the ongoing championship, grabbing the bronze in womens 200m butterfly event, clocking 2:23.11. The gold and silver medals in the event were claimed by Astha Choudhury (Railways, 2:20.63) and Roshini Balasubramanian (Tamil Nadu, 2:20.77).

 

Odisha swimming icon Pratyasa Ray also came close to winning an individual medal in womens 50m backstroke before finishing fourth with a time of 30.75 seconds. Vihitha Nayana Loganathan (Karnataka, 29.99s), Sanjana Manguesh Prabhugaonker (Goa, 30.68s) and Soubrity Mondal (Bengal, 30.70s) won the gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.

The third day witnessed three three new National Records. Bhavya Sachdeva created a new National record in womens 1500 freestyle event with a timing of 17:35.07. Rijula S of Karnataka broke the national record in womens 50m freestyle, clocking 26.36 seconds. In mens 4x100m medley relay race, Tamilnadu created a new National record with a timing of 3:45.09.

With two medals today, the total number of medals for Odisha has increased to three. Earlier on the opening day, Shristi won the gold medal in womens 100m butterfly, clocking 1:03.50.

Karnataka leads the medal tally with 10 gold, 4 silver and 11 bronze for a total 25, followed by Tamil Nadu (6 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze) and Railway Sports Promotion Board (3 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze) with 10 and 11 medals respectively.

Odisha bagged  six medals in the previous edition of the Senior National Aquatic Championship in Mangalore, Karnataka. With two days to go for the conclusion of the current edition, it remains to be seen if the host State can better its previous medal haul.
