Pranati wins artistic gymnastics Asian bronze medal
14 Jun 2025

Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics HPC star Pranati Nayak achieved yet another memorable success of her shining career as she clinched the bronze medal in the senior womens vault apparatus of the 12th Asian Womens Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, South Korea today.

The 30-year-old Olympian finished third behind Zhang Yihar (China) and Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu (Vietnam) with a score of 13.466. This was the third Asian Championship bronze medal for Pranati, who became the most decorated Indian female gymnast at the continental leve. She bagged her first two Asian bronze medals in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (2019) and Doha, Qatar (2022).

Pranati, who hails from Jhargram in West Bengal and works for Indian Railways, also surpassed Olympian Dipa Karmakar in terms of overall medals won at the continental level. Dipa had won bronze in the Hiroshima Asian Championship in 2015 and the historic gold in Tashkent (2024).

However, Dipa remains the only Indian to be crowned Asian champion in any apparatus. Earlier this year, Pranati, who takes coaching from Ashok Mishra, bagged a bronze at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Antalya, Turkey. She represented India at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
