KI Para Games: Powerlifter Gadadhar Sahu settles for bronze
24 Mar 2025

Odisha secured one medal on the fifth day of the 2nd Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) with para powerlifter Gadadhar Sahu winning the bronze in the mens 65 kg category at the Weightlifting Auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi today.

Sahu settled for the third place with a total lift of 143 kg. This was the second Khelo India Para Games medal for the 33-year-old powerlifter from Hinjilikatu, Ganjam, who had bagged the gold medal at the inaugural edition of the Games last year in New Delhi.

Also a state-level medallist in para bodybuilding, Sahu has no legs. He lost both his legs after falling from a running train at the age of 15 in 2008. But his unwavering passion for sports, his hard work and strong will power have enabled him to achieve notable success in multiple disciplines. Sahu also has the reputation of winning medals in National Para Powerlifting Championships.

With the addition of one bronze today, the total number of medals for Odisha at the ongoing Khelo India Para Games has gone up to 10. The 10 medals feature two gold, two silver and six bronze.
