Leading Odisha tennis player Amrutjay Mohanty clinched a double crown, winning both the singles and doubles titles in the MOSF AITA Mens 1 Lakh Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Gurukul Tennis Resorts and Country Club in Mendhasal, Khordha (Odisha) today. Over 70 players from different states participated in the tournament, which commenced on February 22.

In the singles final, Amrutjay faced a tough challenge against Saurya Manik from Chhattisgarh. After dropping the first set 2-6, he made a stunning comeback, claiming the second set 6-4 and sealing victory in the decider with a commanding 6-3 win. His determination and ability to bounce back under pressure showcased his growing stature in Indian tennis.

In the doubles category, Amrutjay and his state-mate Subhranil Barman also faced stiff competition before emerging champions. In an intense final against West Bengal opponents Wyatt Oberian and Anurag Agarwal, the Odisha duo secured the opening set 6-4, but lost the second 1-6.

However, they displayed incredible composure in the super tiebreak, winning it 10-6 to claim the title. This was the first AITA mens doubles title for Subhranil Barman and a maiden double crown for Amrutjay at the senior level.

Speaking on his double crown, Amrutjay expressed his elation, saying, “This tournament has been a great test of my game and mental strength. Winning both titles means a lot to me, and I am grateful for the support of my parents, my coach Chinmay Pradhan and team Gurukul Tennis Academy.
