Odisha bagged 10 medals in the 13th National Para Judo Championships, which was organised by UP Blind and Para Judo Association, under the auspices of Indian Blind and Para Judo Association at KD Singh Babu Stadium in Lucknow from 24 to 28 February 2025. The 10 medals included two silver and eight bronze.
Bhagaban Nayak and Abhisek Acharya bagged the two silver medals in senior (above 21 years) -81kg J1 and -95kg J2 categories respectively. Mohan Sahu (-64kg J1), Sukanta Mahakud (-72kg J2), Chandan Sabat (-81kg J1) and Niranjan Sahu (-81kg J2) secured one bronze medal each in senior groups.
Mohan Sahu also claimed one bronze medal in junior (U-21) -66kg J1 group. Other three bronze medals were captured in youth (U-18) groups by Prasad Kumar Swain (-62kg J1), Ankit Mohanty (-62kg J2) and Chandan Sabat (+66kg J1).
A 22-member all-male Odisha squad participated in the five-day National championship. The squad was accompanied by Odisha Para Judo Association (OPJA) general secretary Lopamudra Pati and technical secretary-cum-coach Biswajit Mahari.
Odisha State Judo Association secretary and eminent coach Gitanjali Panda lauded the heart-warming performances of the State visually impaired judo squad and congratulated the medal winners.
