  National Federation Athletics: Animesh wins 200m gold with NR

Odisha ace Animesh Kujur bagged the gold medal in the mens 200m sprint with a National Record, clocking 20.40 seconds on the fourth and last day of the 28th National Federation Senior Athletics Competition at the Maharajas College Stadium in Kochi, Kerala today.

He bettered both the previous National and Meet Records of 20.52 seconds, held by Amlan Borgohain since 6 April 2022.  With this stellar performance, Animesh also qualified for the 26th Asian Athletics Championships to be held in Gumi, South Korea from 27 to 31 May 2025.

 

This was the second medal of the current competition for Animesh, who secured the mens 100m sprint earlier on the opening day. Odisha also won one bronze medal on the final with Jashbir Nayak finishing third in mens decathlon, garnering a total of 7156 points.

Odisha athletes ended their campaign with a total of five medals, which featured one gold, three silver and one bronze. Among other Odisha medal winners, Pragyan Prasanti Sahu and Swadhin Kumar Majhi won one silver medal each in womens 100m hurdles and mens high jump respectively.

A total of 16 athletes from Odisha participated in the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition, which was a selection event for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships.
