Kalinga Super Cup Football: FC Goa emerge champions 2nd time
03 May 2025

FC Goa emerged champions in the 5th Kalinga Super Cup Football Tournament, defeating Jamshedpur FC 3-0 in the final at Kalinga Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. FC Goa also secured their qualification for the AFC Champions League Two 2025-26 as they will return to an Asian club competition after four years.

FC Goa became the first team to win the Kalinga Super Cup twice. They won their first title in 2019. The Gaurs received Rs 25 lakh as prize money, while runners-up Jamshedpur FC received Rs 15 lakh. Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo handed the trophy in closing ceremony.

Home favourites Odisha FC made disappointing exit from the tournament as they were trounced 3-0 by Punjab FC in their opening match earlier on April 21. Playing on home turm mattered little as 2023 champions and 2024 runners-up Odisha FC made a meek surrender in their pre-quarterfinal match.

Tankadhar Bag, the only local player in the 25-member Odisha FC squad, did not get a place even in the 20-member line-up today. The elimination of Odisha FC was the second major upset of the tournament, following the defeat of defending champions East Bengal FC earlier on April 20.

A total of 15 premier clubs from across India, including 13 Indian Super League (ISL) clubs and 3 I-League clubs participated in the fifth edition of the Kalinga Super Cup.

The first two editions of Kalinga Super Cup were also held in Bhubaneswar with Bengaluru FC and FC Goa lifting the trophy. Odisha FC won the third edition, defeating Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the final at EMS Stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala.
