Three athletes from Odisha secured first or second positions in the Indian Open Athletics Meet, which was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on 15 April 2025. Returning to competitions after an eight-month gap, Odisha javelin star Kishore Kumar Jena settled for the second position with a throw of 75.99 metres.

Jena was defeated by Yashvir Singh (Railways), who claimed the first position, hurling the spear to a distance of 77.49 metres. Braveman Heart (Tamil Nadu) finished third with an effort of 72.36 metres.

This was the first competition for Asian Games silver medallist Jena since the 2024 Paris Olympics where he finished 18th with 80.73. His best came at the 2023 Asian Games, where he won the silver with 87.54m.

Odisha sprinters Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram and Animesh Kujur secured the first positions in mens 200m Race A and Race B respectively. Kujur clocked 21.14 seconds, while Jayaram triumphed with a time of 21.67 seconds.
