Two men and one woman from Odisha garnered a total of five medals for India in the Hong Kong 2025 Para Fencing Satellite Tournament, which was held at Ma On Shan Sports Centre in Hong Kong on 12 to 13 April 2025. The five medals consisted of one silver and four bronze.
Rakhal Kumar Sethy was most successful among the Odisha trio, bagging one silver medal in wheelchair (Category-A) mens sabre and one bronze medal each in mens epee and foil. Venkateshwar Ramesh Rao secured one bronze in wheelchair (Category-A) mens foil, while Malti Panaure won one bronze in wheelchair (Category-A) womens epee.
Host Hong Kong topped the medal tally with nine gold, five silver and six bronze for a total of 20 medals. Argentina (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) finished second with three medals while India secured the third position with five medals.
World Para Fencing satellite tournaments are open to all para fencers looking to make their international debuts. They are designed to provide an early pathway for athletes who may not yet be ready to compete at World Cups. The satellites also contribute to the World Para Fencing rankings. Athletes require an international classification to compete at a Satellite Tournament.
Para Sports Association of Odisha president Kamala Kanta Ratha, secretary Sunil Pradhan and Para Fencing Odisha chairperson Bela Jaiswal congratulated the three medal winners for bringing glory to the State and the country.
