Sundargarh created history by emerging champions for the first time in the Senior Men Inter District Cricket Tournament for Kalahandi Cup, defeating home favourites Cuttack-A in the final by four wickets at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today.
Opting to bat, Cuttack-A made a modest total of 132, which was overhauled comfortably by Sundargarh in 31.4 overs, losing six wickets in the process. Sundargarh pacer Sahil Prasad was awarded as the Player of the Match for bagging three wickets for 17 runs.
The champion and runners-up teams received cash prizes of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively. Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde graced the closing ceremony as chief guest.
