  Indian Open Athletics: Double for Srabani; Amiya, Ashok win titles

Odisha athletes achieved notable success in the Indian Open Athletics Meet, winning four events, finishing second and third in three and two events respectively at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi (Jharkhand) on 10 April 2025. The one-day meet was organised by Jharkhand Athletics Association, under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India.

Among 12 athletes, who represented Odisha, Olympian Srabani was most successful as she clinched a double, winning first position in womens 100m and 200m run. Experienced sprinter Amiya Kumar Mallick and middle-distance runner Ashok Dandasena claimed the other two first positions in mens 100m and 1500m events respectively.

 

The second positions were captured by Abhinash Sahu (mens 100m run), Astik Pradhan (mens 200m run) and P Arpita Archana Sahoo (womens javelin throw). Sukhi Baskey and Dhanmati Xess finished third in womens 100m run and javelin throw respectively.

Amiya Kumar Mallick: First in mens 100m run (10.66 seconds)
Ashok Dandasena: First in mens 1500m run (3:53.07)
Srabani Nanda: First in womens 100m run (12.33 seconds)
Srabani Nanda: First in womens 200m run (24.75 seconds)

Abhinash Sahu: Second in mens 100m run (10.71 seconds)
Astik Pradhan: Second in mens 200m run (21.78 seconds)
P Arpita Archana Sahoo: Second in womens javelin throw (41.80 metres)

Sukhi Baskey: Third in womens 100m run (13.10 seconds)
Dhanmati Xess: Third in womens javelin throw (39.80 metres)
