  38th National Games: Swimmer Shristi wins first medal for Odisha

Woman swimmer Shristi Upadhaya won the first medal for Odisha in the 38th National Games with a bronze in 100m butterfly at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium Swimming Pool in Haldwani, Uttarakhand today. She achieved the feat with a time of 1:05.20.

Odisha missed another medal in swimming as the State women 4x100m relay team, featuring Pratyasa Ray, Anshika Aradhana Sahoo, Divyanka Dibyajhoti Pradhan and Shristi Upadhaya finished fourth, clocking 4:16.39. Raiguru Suryansh Mohapatra also came close to winning a medal for Odisha in triathlon mens sprint before finishing fourth.

 

Odisha experienced a delightful day in rugby sevens and kho-kho with the State men and women teams scripting back-to-back wins in both the disciplines. In rugby sevens, Odisha women team beat Delhi 24-5 and Uttarakhand 57-0 in Pool-A, while the men team defeated Delhi 10-5 and West Bengal 44-28 in Pool-B at Ganga Athletics Ground, Dehradun.

In kho-kho, Odisha women beat Tamil Nadu 36-18 and Gujarat 26-16 in Pool-B, while the men team got the better of Chhattisgarh 43-34 and West Bengal 44-28 in Pool-B at Manaskhand Khel Parisar, Haldwani.

Odisha women football team started their campaign on a winning note, beating Haryana 2-1 in a Pool-A match at District Sports Complex in Haldwani today. Captain Pyari Xaxa and Manisha Naik scored the two goals for Odisha in the 37th and 42nd minutes respectively.
