Odisha shuttlers Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Nurul Hossain Khan won one silver medal each in mens doubles events of the Egypt Para Badminton International, which was held in Cairo, Egypt from 21 to 26 January 2025. Partnering with different players, both Deep and Nurul reached finals in SU5 and WH1-WH2 categories respectively before suffering defeats.

Bisoyee and fellow Indian Dev Rathi beat Azerbaijan opponents Ibrahim Aliyev and Sedat Tumkaya in the semifinals 21-12, 21-14. But in the title clash they lost to Indian pair of Hardik Makkar and Ruthick Ragupathi 21-16, 16-21, 13-21.

In the WH1-WH2 final, Nurul and his English partner David Flotter lost to Indian duo of Pooma Rao Chapara and Manjunatha Chikkaiah 8-21, 10-21. Earlier in the semifinals, Nurul and David prevailed over Egypt combination of Mohamed Rashad Ahmed and Mahmoud Youssuf 21-13, 21-15.

“It is always encouraging to win a medal in the first international tournament of the year. Especially, taking into consideration that I entered the tournament with an injury I carried while competing in the state championship. I was also coming into the tournament sick which affected my singles quarterfinals whereI lost from a winning position. However, I still learned many things from this tournament,” shared Deep on his performance.
