  FIFA Friendly: Pyari goal in vain as India lose to Myanmar

Indian senior womens football team suffered a 1-2 defeat against hosts Myanmar in the first of their two FIFA friendly matches at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon today. Win Theingi Tun and San Thaw Thaw scored the two goals for Myanmar in the 14th and 74th minutes respectively, while Odisha ace Pyari Xaxa netted the only goal for India in the 58th minute.

This was the first meeting between Myanmar (World rank 54) and India (World rank 67) after more than five years and the second match will take place on July 12. Ashalata Devi is leading the 23-member Indian team with Pyari Xaxa as the lone player from Odisha.

Representation of Odisha in the Indian women football team came down to just one player as star forward Pyari Xaxa retained her place for the friendlies against Myanmar. But Odisha defender Juli Kishan, who was a regular member of the team since September 2022, was not selected this time.

Forwards: Kajol Hubert Dsouza, Anju Tamang, Soumya Guguloth, Sandhiya Ranganathan, Karishma Purushottam Shirvoikar, Lynda Kom Serto, Pyari Xaxa, Jyoti, Rimpa Haldar. Head coach: Langam Chaoba Devi.
