09 May 2024

Ace defender Amit Rohidas has retained his place in the Indian Mens Hockey team as the only player from Odisha for the Europe leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023-24, starting on May 22. The 24-member Indian team was announced by Hockey India today.

India will play a total of eight matches, twice each against Argentina, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain across two legs of the tournament. The first leg will be held in Antwerp, Belgium from May 22 to 30 while the second will take place in London from June 1 to 12.

Indian men are currently placed third in the Pro League standings with 15 points from eight matches, behind leader the Netherlands (26 points from 12 matches) and Australia (20 from 8). Ace drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh will lead the team with midfielder Hardik Singh as his deputy.

The Europe leg of the Pro League will serve as dress rehearsal for the 2024 Paris Olympics beginning July 26 and will give head coach Craig Fulton a perfect opportunity to firm up his side. India are returning to international competition after a 0-5 loss to Australia in an away Test series.
