  AIIU Aquatics: Four Odisha swimmers bag 13 medals

Four swimmers from Odisha, including three women, bagged a total of 13 medals for respective universities in the All India Inter-University Aquatics Championship 2023-24, which was held at SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) from 2 to 4 February 2024.

The three women swimmers, who all belong to Odisha IIS Swimming High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, won 11 out of the 13 medals. All three also qualified for the Khelo India University Games 2024, scheduled to be held in Guwahati, Assam from February 19 to 22.

Among the three women, leading international Pratyasa Ray was most successful, capturing six medals for her alma mater Utkal University. The six medals included two gold, three silver and one bronze.

West Bengal woman international Shristi Upadhaya, who resides in Bhubaneswar and represents Odisha in National championships, also reaped a rich harvest of four medals (two gold, 2 silver) for Jadavpur University, Kolkata.


Sonia Patel was the other woman medal winner from Odisha, securing one bronze for Sambalpur University, while Odisha male swimmer Subhrant Patra, who represented Jain University, Bangalore, grabbed one gold and one silver.


Pratyasa Ray (Utkal University): 2 Gold (100m & 200m backstroke), 3 Silver (50m backstroke, 200m & 400m freestyle) and 1 Bronze (400m individual medley).

Shristi Upadhaya
(Jadavpur University): 2 Gold (100m & 200m butterfly) and 2 Silver (50m butterfly & 200m individual medley).

Subhrant Patra
(Jain University): 1 Gold (4x100m medley relay) and 1 Silver (200m butterfly).

Sonia Patel
(Sambalpur University): 1 Bronze (100m freestyle).
