07 May 2022

The Government of Odisha, alongwith Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and Odisha Athletics Association (OAA) will conduct the Indian Grand Prix 3 and 4 at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on 21 and 24 May 2022 respectively. This was announced by AFI Secretary, Ravinder Chaudhry today.

Originally, scheduled to be held in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on May 17 and 21, Indian GP 3 & 4 have been shifted to provide better facilities to the athletes, the AFI state in a press release.

Meanwhile, it was reported in a section of the media that these events had been shifted to Lakshmibaibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE), Trivandrum, Kerala. But the AFI made it official today that Bhubaneswar would host the two IGPs on May 21 and 24.

The Grand Prix athletics meets have special importance as the athletes can achieve the qualification standard for the World Athletics, Commonwealth Games and the postponed Asian Games.

There will be total 17 events in both the meets which includes nine events for women and and events for men. The meets will be held in the evening on both the days, the AFI Secretary stated.
