The opening day also produced two New Meet Records. Ashok Dandasena of Odisha Police scripted a New Meet Record while winning gold medal in mens 1500 metre run. He clocked 3 minute 58.7 seconds and eclipsed his previous record of 3:57.2.
Bighnaraj Miridia, also from Odisha Police, established the other New Meet Record in the semifinals of the mens 400 etre run with a time of 48.26 seconds. Previous record in this event was 48.31 seconds.
More than 400 athletes are competing in 34 track and field events of two-day State Championship, which is being organised jointly by Sports and Youth Services Department, Govt of Odisha; KIIT University and Odisha Athletics Association.
Athletes attaining the qualifying mark, fixed by Athletics Federation of India, will be eligible to represent Odisha in the 60th National Open Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in Warangal, Telangana from 15 to 19 September 2021.
