  8 crore to develop school playfields

The State Government has allocated Rs 8 crore this year for development of infrastructure for sports at the school level. This was stated by State School and Mass Education Minister Bishnu Charan Das at the annual conference and general body meeting of the State School Games Association here today. Also the chairman of the association, Das said efforts would be made to prepare green playfields in each and every school of the State. A calendar was released on the occasion for systematic conduct of school sports meets in the State. According to the calendar, State school swimming competition will be held here on September 12. The Capital City will also host similar meets in hockey, basketball, badminton and table tennis on October 27 and 28.

 

The autumn sports meet, featuring competitions in kho-kho, kabaddi and football will be conducted at Sambalpur from September 20 to 23. Angul will be the venue for cricket meet from November 22 to 26. Competitions in athletics, volleyball, tennekoit and archery will be held at Mayurbhanj from December 8 to 12, while the same in wrestling, gymnastics, yoga, chess and weightlifting will take place at Puri on October 23 and 24. Throwball and softball events are set to be held at Kudiari in Khurda on November 8 and 9, while handball, baseball, kickboxing, judo and karate meets are scheduled to take place at Athgarh, Baramba and Bhubaneswar.
