Sambit Panda won the title with 6.5 points out of a possible seven in the All Odisha Open Chess Tournament, which was organised by District Chess Association of Puri (DCAP) at Sanskruti Bhavan in Puri on November 10 and 11, 2018. He received a cash prize of Rs 7,000.
Local favourite, state senior champion and top seed Rajesh Nayak pocketed the runner-up prize of Rs 5,500 with six points, while former state champion Manoj Kumar Panigrahi claimed the third prize of Rs 4,000, also with six points.

Khordha District Chess Association secretary Subhasis Patnaik inaugurated the tournament. As many as 141 players from nine districts participated in the tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 75,000.
All Odisha Chess Association secretary Krushna Kumar Sarma, DCAP president Narayan Patra, vice-president Suresh Chandra Sahoo and secretary Pradyumna Mishra handed over the prizes at the closing ceremony.
