Uttar Pradesh beat Odisha by 10 wickets on the fourth and last day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match here at KIIT Cricket Stadium today. The emphatic win fetched UP seven points, while host Odisha drew blank.

Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 180 for seven, Odisha were all out for 221, thus setting an easy target of 41 runs for UP to win the match. The visitors accomplished the job without losing any wicket in the first session of the day.

After conceding the big first-innings lead, Odisha failed to fight back in the second essay as they lost wickets in regular intervals. Among Odisha batsmen, Sandeep Pattanaik and Subhranshu Senapati made good starts but could not stay long for big knocks.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 437 in their first-innings, in reply to 256 by host Odisha. Uttar Pradesh captain Aksh Deep Nath slammed an unbeaten 151, while Priyam Garg and Rinku Singh scored a half-century each. Nath was adjudged the man of the match.

After being reduced to 72 for four, the visitors fought back with vigour, thanks to the superb knock by skipper Nath. The last wicket pair of Shivam Mavi and Yash Dayal compounded agony for Odisha with a 57-run partnership.

Pace spearhead Basant Mohanty was most successful bowler for Odisha with a haul of six wickets for 62 runs. Despite the death of his father few days ago, the lion-hearted bowler turned up to work for the interest of his state. This, perhaps, was the most inspiring story of the match !

Put into bat on the opening day, Odisha made a vulnerable start, losing both the openers with only 10 runs on the board. The home team could muster the 250-plus total thanks to a defiant 87 by Subhransu Senapati and his 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket with stumper Sujit Lenka.

This was the fifth first-class fifty by Senapati, whose 136-ball knock featured 14 boundaries. Lenka made 46 off 98 balls. Besides Senapati and Lenka, former captain Govinda Poddar (39), Debabrata Pradhan (24) and Rajesh Mohantyy (23) made notable contributions.

Odisha made one change in their side for the match against UP, including swing master Basant Mohanty in place of pacer Suryakant Pradhan who played in their drawn opening match against Haryana.
